Festung Hohensalzburg HDR

Hey, it’s 5:30 am. I don’t feel like thinking up a decent title. It’s a crappy lens anyway! I’m leaving for Colorado tomorrow for an extended visit with my family. I’m really looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with everyone in the same place. I’ll have my camera gear with me, but I won’t be uploading any new photos until early December. I may post on the blog if something strikes my fancy, but unless it’s significant, it will most likely end up on my Twitter feed.

This is the view from one of the oberservation towers atop the Festung Hohensalzburg, one of the oldest castles in Europe.

Here’s a view of the city of Salzburg, Austria from the fortress Hohensalzburg over the river Salzach. It is one of the oldest castles in Europe!

My only regret for this shot is that I didn’t think to do an HDR. In reality it was the wrong time of day anyway, and I’m lucky this photo turned out as bearable as it did (I hope). Oh well…view it LARGE for the details!

Down on the open square below you can see a giant sized chess board (the pieces were about 3.5 feet tall) where people are enjoying a game.

These train tracks, which now service commuters, are about 5 kilometers from the site of the Mauthausen concentration camp, outside of Linz, Austria.

They served a much more nefarious purpose 55 years ago. I recommend heading over to Flickr to view a larger version of this shot. More shots from my visit to the camp are on the way….
