Arthur C. Clarke, Science Fiction Writer, Dies at 90

18Mar08

From the New York Times:

Arthur C. Clarke, a visionary science fiction writer who won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future, died Wednesday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, an aide said. He was 90.

Co-author with Stanley Kubrick of Kubrick’s film ”2001: A Space Odyssey,” Clarke was regarded as far more than a science fiction writer.

The man was a titan, it’s as simple as that. He was one of those human souls that inexplicably possesses the vision to communicate in glorious detail concepts and worlds that you or I would be lucky to dream by accident. By sheer coincidence, I have a copy of Rendezvous with Rama on my desk right now. I can think of no better (or sadder) occasion on which to crack it open.

Thank you, Mr. Clark. Godspeed.
