Dropping 22TB of patches on 6,500 PCs in 4 hours: BitTorrent

If you follow the feeds over in the Technology section of Digg (and if you are into geekery you surely do), you must have noticed the recent uptick in stories touting the legitimate uses of BitTorrent technology. This one caught my eye tonight because it’s one of the best examples I’ve seen publicized recently. The benefit of using BitTorrent technology in this situation is undeniable. In this case a Dutch University used BitTorrent to disseminate a massive software update across its campus in mere hours. Surely I don’t need to point out that that BitTorrent technology would run just fine on this side of the pond.

Yet another reason to defend Net Neutrality: the education of our children (read: hypothetical children which may or may not exist in the future. Subjects to terms and restrictions.).
